Join us for an important discussion on mental health from a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern! Danesha Simmons will be our special guest for the evening to talk to us about all things mental health and how we can best support ourselves and the ones around us. Some of you may remember Danesha from our virtual discussion back in July of 2020 on Social Justice and we are excited to have her back!
Danesha graduated from the CACREP accredited program at The University of Memphis with a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She completed her undergraduate studies at The University of Memphis with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. Danesha served as a mental health and substance use counselor intern with Health Quest as well as a domestic violence victim and victimizer counseling intern with The Exchange Club Family Center. Amongst completed academic studies, Danesha served as the Lead Adolescent therapist at an Acute Hospitalization Program in Tennessee, and by recently moving to the state of Florida, she served as the Lead Adolescent therapist of a Behavioral Health Residential Treatment Facility. Danesha is a Certified Family Trauma Professional affiliated with the American Counseling Association. Danesha has experience providing clinical counseling to adolescents, young adults, adults, elderly adults, couples, and families in individual and group settings. She specializes in various topics: mental and physical health correlation, goal setting, career interests, and task development, self-awareness and empowerment, reconstructing negative beliefs and thought processes, complex trauma, PTSD, effective communication and conflict resolution tools, relational issues, codependency, domestic violence, grounding and mindfulness techniques, anger management, impulsivity, behavioral issues, parenting skills, and mood disorders. Using a person-centered cognitive-behavioral approach, Danesha uses a holistic, creative, and individualistic approach to help you identify your needs and wants in a safe and non-judgemental space.
